A's kick off second half in New York
The Oakland A's were in New York to take on the Yankees and start the second half of the season. Oakland's Greg Smith gave up six runs in 3 2/3 innings while Yankees' Mike Mussina allowed only one run in six innings to give the Yankees a 7 to 1 win. Oakland managed nine hits but could not push the runs across. Mark Ellis was 1 for 4 with a run scored but also struck out 3 times in the game.
